Spicy Avocado Toast
My favorite way to prepare avocado toast.
Ingredients for the dough:
2 ripe avocados
1/4 cup chopped purple (or white) onion
1 chopped serrano pepper
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon of chili oil (plus more for topping)
1 tablespoon of cilantro
Juice of 1/2 a lime
Salt and pepper to taste
Sesame seeds
Roughly 1 cup of mozzarella cheese
4 slices of your favorite sliced bread
Preparation:
This recipe is for 2 slices of toast but can make up to 4, it just depends on how generous you want to be. First, roughly chop your onion, serrano pepper, and cilantro. Next, halve your avocados and remove the pit. Using a spoon, separate the avocado flesh from the skin. In a large bowl (or molcajete) add those avocado pieces and gently mash them. Drop in your chopped veggies and incorporate them in. Add the garlic powder, chili oil, salt, pepper, and lime zest and juice.
There are a few ways to do this next step--oven, toaster oven, air fryer. I went with a traditional oven. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Place your bread slices on a cookie sheet and pop into the oven for 3 minutes on each side. Once golden brown evenly divide the cheese on the slices and place into the oven for another minute. Once the bread is ready, plate the toast and add the avocado mixture on top. Make sure it’s a nice and thick layer. Top with sesame seeds and a drizzle of chili crisp. Enjoy with some coffee, a mimosa, or whatever you drink at breakfast.
