Hola, soy Jaime
Cooking has always fascinated me. When I was a kid, I helped my mom make chocolate candies and turrón. Whenever my parents threw a party, I helped seasoned quail, pernil, and carne for my dad. I would visit an aunt just to watch her bake cakes. And for my high school senior project, I wrote about Marie-Antonin Carême, the French chef of kings and first celebrity chef. But when I told my parents that I wanted to go to culinary school, instead of a traditional four-year college, like all immigrant parents, they disapproved and protested. I listened, went to UC Berkeley and now work in politics.
I love what I do but cooking keeps me grounded and allows me to show affection to my family and friends. During the start of the pandemic, I cooked for my folks. And now that I’m back home in New York, I invited friends over for dinner or send them baked goods.
So that’s why I’m here—to flex my cooking muscle and share my recipes. Some are influenced by my family, others I developed using the flavors and ingredients that bring me comfort. Hope you enjoy. Y buen provecho.
